Summer Saturdays on the Cambrian.
1984 was to be the last year for class 25s operation on regular
passinger services west of Shrewsbury. Here is a small pictorial tribute
to these workings.

This first photo shows 25218+25205 awaiting time at Welshpool while
working the 1J24 10:10 SO Euston - Aberystwyth on 11th August 1984, the
class 25s working this service from Wolverhampton. Apart from the period
between 9th June - 7th July, when 1J24 only ran to Shrewsbury, the return
working for the loco and stock off 1J24 was the 2J87 17:05 Aberystwyth
- Shrewsbury, then 5H34 ECS to Longsight, Manchester.

Because the loco hauled passinger trains of the period all called at
Shrewsbury rather than using the avoiding line (Behind the signal box),
a run round move in the station became necessary. Here we see 25175+25044
running round the 1J20 07:35 Euston - Aberystwyth at Shrewsbury on the
18th of August 1984, passing before the famous signal box.

Another shot of 1J20 shows Rats 25109+25199 backing onto the
stock at Wolverhampton on 14th July 1984, having taken over from 86235.
The loco and stock later formed the 2J84 14:00 SO Aberystwyth - Shrewsbury,
then ECS Oxley.

This shot shows 25254+25282 approaching Welshpool station from the
west with the 1A46 10:10 Aberystyth - Euston on 11th of August 1984. 1A46
was the only through service to Euston at this time.
