     'UD' remembers...
"It was a warm sunny afternoon.  I decided to walk to Longport, some 5 miles distant, in order to get a few photos.
I also called in at Cockshute sidings, near Stoke.  Though the yard had closed the previous October it was still intact
and in use for storage of redundant stock :

83013+82004+82006+83002+83010+83007+83005+83008 were most notable, but also

The following units were also present - 75769+75825( ex 303059), Class 506 cars 59606/59506/59406, Class 504 cars 77158+65436 & 65443,
ex Class 309 cars 69108/100/107/101/104/108/102/103 and hauled stock 1527/1621/1641.
There were a few wagons there too.

En-route, I saw 25178 with a southbound rake of engineers bogie 'Turbot' wagons.

At Longport, 08927 was the yard pilot, soon to busy itself shunting the wagons that had arrived with 47287, from the wagon
works to the south of Stoke.  25185 then arrived at the yard with stone empties from Witton, later departing LD for stabling back at Stoke.
25278+25325 were next to appear, they also called at the yard to detach a raft of loaded sand wagons destined for Worksop from that
afternoons Oakamoor - St Helens sand train.  Most unusual amidst the local Crewe - Derby DMU's (formed by the very familiar Class 120 BR
Swindon Cross county types) and the then regular, all stations Manchester turns (formed of Class 304 EMU's), was 25229 with a single North
bound Nuclear flask wagon!   86234, 86243 & 86311 had worked through with the regular main line expresses too.  Once 47287 departed
southwards with that afternoons Longport - Bescot freight, with little more action expected, I soon followed for the long walk home.  Still, it
all seamed worth it at the time,  even more so once I got the photos back..."
