Where were you?

      'Faggy' recalls the following...

"I guess you might not count ETH moves as hellfire, but this is my fave day because it all fell into place. All 31s, all over the country!
I'd just finished a year working in London and had three weeks to kill before going back to Uni for my final year. Came out of London on the 23.40 ex-Euston (made it this time - another big leaving do) and then fell onto the move below. I was tempted by my machine (31423)
which was quoted for the hauled Blackpool-Nottingham-Blackpool-Sheffield diagram but no-one could confirm it. I think 31428 came
off the Derby-Paignton diagram but am not sure. Anyway, it all slotted into place with unnerving ease and included
time for beers in the Red Cow at Exeter and the Australian Bar at Birmingham. And '428 was load 10 hence a lot of noise!

31405:  04.34 Birmingham-Leeds (1E26)
        07.41 Leeds-Tenby (1V33) (to Birmingham New Street)
(engine worked to Cardiff)
31435/430:      10.10 Manchester-Paignton (1V47)
(from Birmingham to Exeter) 31435 failed firebells ringing.
31417/427:      14.48 Paignton-Liverpool (1M41)
from Exeter to Birmingham via Worcester and Old Hill due to failure of a duff on the bank, locos had
worked down on the Rose Grove-Paignton from Birmingham; by then booked a pair).
31428:  19.36 Birmingham-Paddington.

Splendid!

Then it was back out of Euston on the overnights, to head to Manchester
for the Blackpools with NB 31s to spare for three solid weeks (and a
trip over the S&C, Southport, Leeds-Lancaster, etc.) "
