and my most successful day's bashing ever - 20 new (on a Midland rover);
exciting stuff for a 13-year-old! The move was: 1E04 (07.30 B'ham New St.- Newcastle) 37077 (TE) + 37033 (MR), BNS to Derby. 1E83 (08.32 Derby-Yarmouth) 47325 (TO) to Long Eaton. 1E47 (07.05 Wellingborough-Scarborough) 47215 (IM) to Derby. 1021 (07.10 Bradford-Weymouth) 47460 (SF) to Leamington Spa (avoiding New St via Saltley-St Andrews Jct link). 1E?? (07.50 Weymouth-Bradford) 47097 (CF) to BNS via Coventry. ???? (Service unknown, 12.41 off BNS) 45014 (HO) to Tamworth. 1E30 (08.20 Plymouth-Leeds) 46015 (LA) to Derby. ???? (09.35 Carlisle-Nottingham) 45105 (TO) to Nottingham. 1M86 (12.35 Skegness-Leicester) 47190 (CD) to Attenborough. 1M35 (13.02 Skegness-Derby) 20048 (TO) + 20188 (TO) to Derby. ???? (16.07 Derby-St. Pancras) 45128 (TO) + 46004 (LA) to Long Eaton. 1M48 (12.40 Scarborough-Leicester) 46051 (GD) to Beeston. 1D17 (13.02 Llandudno- Nottingham) 25321 (TO) to Nottingham. 1M?? (14.15 Yarmouth-Derby) 25280 (TO) + 25271 (BS) to Long Eaton. ???? (16.12 St Pancras-Derby) 45140 (TO) to Derby. 1V98 (16.20 Newcastle-Cardiff) 45048 to BNS. Not all spectacular stuff, but 1E04 was hellfire; the loco for this service was a Saltley kick-out and the kick-out monitor often came up with something unusual, but on this day he amazed everyone. The pair of Peaks was the result of the 46 coming out of Derby Works and being added to the booked 45/1 for running-in (these turns sometimes produced a 27 from about '79 onwards). After a 15-year break from the railways, it was a nice surprise to find that four locos I'd had that day had been preserved - 25321, 45105 and both of the chibblies. I think the 37s are both still about, too." |
