Q. Pogo asks...  "In my moves book i have got written down:

Tuesday 03 jan 1984 -   37036 York-Doncaster
                                             31268 Doncaster-York.

Wednesday 04 jan 1984 - 37263 York-Sheffield via Pontefract on 1V08.
                                             45017 Sheffield-York via Leeds on 1E60.

2 things are puzzling me.

1)  On the Diary Pages you have 37036 working 1305 Edinburgh - Kings Cross and 31268 working the 1414 Kings Cross - Newcastle on Monday 02 Jan 1984.  Was this the correct day?

2)  On the Diary Pages again you have 45017 working 1E63 0940 Poole - Leeds from Birmingham to Leeds on the 3rd, but I had it from Sheffield to York on a 1E60 on the 4th?
Also what was the train I had 37263 on?  What train was 1V08?

A. Nick B says...
       "45017 did 0752 Exeter to Inverness relief 1Z52 TO New Street then;
0935 Poole to York Rlf (via Leeds) - from New St - I had Derby to York.

       37263 worked a 1307 York to Plymouth rlf 1V08.

Just to confirm - the date was Tuesday 3rd Jan 1984."

          Ian Horner says.. "Mon 2/1/84
                                            37036 13.05 Edinburgh - Kings X
                                            31268 14.14 Kings X - Newcastle"

Was there anybody on these trains to confirm the mix up?   January 1984 Diary page.

Q. Gary Blyth recalls that Saturday MAY 17th 1980 was an interesting day for Class 40 activity in the Birmingham area, but more
details are required to fully identify the services:
            a) 40019 vice AC Electric on the 1155 dep to Manchester P, but where did this service originate?
            b) As 40019 arrived at Wolves, 40030 was missed on a service back towards New St, what service was this?
            c) When Gary got back to New St, he was told 40080 (or possibly 40090) had left for Oxford, what could this have been?
            d) Later, at approx. 7pm, 40111 arrived at New St with and ADEX, again does anyone have any more details?
In addition to the above workings, 40185 worked 1O15 09:24 Manchester - Poole, presume to Reading returning with 1M40,
the 16:25 Weymouth - Nottingham, but Gary disputes 40154 working a 0928 Cardiff - Wolverhampton relief on this date.
In which case, what is the correct date that 40154 worked the 0928 Cardiff - Wolves Relief?
Question re-posted: 02/05/04
A.  Rob Lorton replies...
40019 1O19 07.52 ex Newcastle to Poole into Birmingham, returning 1M03 to Manchester 08.30 ex Swansea.

40030 was thought to be 1G58 11.27 Manchester - Bham (12.39 at Wolves), then went to Saltley. 1M03 *must* have been a bit late to miss it. If not 1G58, it
could only have been something like 1V85 10.40 Manch - Paignton (12.10 off Wolves).

40090: 1O13 07.50 Leeds - Weymouth to Basingstoke (pulled from, or terminated there??), returning on an ecs that afternoon (to Oxley?) I viewed the ecs coming
north through Coventry late afternoon / early evening (contrary to rumours / hopes that it would return with 40185 in multiple). On getting back to New St later on,
            we viewed 40111.

            40185: 1O17 11.04 Bham - Weymouth to Reading, 1E63 Poole - Newcastle from Reading - Birmingham, 1O23 15.22 L'pool - Poole back out to Oxford, returning on
1M40 16.25 Weymouth - Nottingham from Oxford to New St! I was stood at Bham International when it rolled in on 1O17, took it to Coventry, and got 1M40 back
Cov to New St. A mate did the Reading move earlier.

40111: I'd also like to know what this was on. Most likely a charter, but ISTR no readily identifiable contents, e.g. SAGA, troops, etc. Think it may have come on
at New St, I photted it in Platform 11 on the stock (facing eastwards) but had to let it go, not knowing where it was going. Never got near it again :-(

40154 worked the *following* Saturday, 24/5/80 1Z37 0928 Cardiff - Wolves relief (via the Lickey). I could only get to New St for it."

Q.Brillo asks...
"Could anyone please tell me if they have any record of 25101 working a passenger train around the West Yorkshire area from mid 1979 to 1982.
This engine was dumped at Hillhouse Goods, Huddersfield in 1982 (I think) after running into another train and was withdrawn and cut up soon after."
A.  Alan Baylis writes...
"25151 was the loco that on the 3/9/82 ran out of control through Slaithwaite and Huddersfield stations with hopper wagons following brake failure.
The train was diverted into Hillhouse Goods Yard, collided with a Ferry van and smashed through buffers causing extensive damage.  It was
removed to Healy Mills on 6/9/82 and withdrawn on the 12th.  It moved to Toton in January 83 and was used for rerailing exercises until mid-87
before being broken up on site at the end of 87.  Its last passenger train working came two weeks before the accident when it was active on turns
between Glasgow and Ayr/Carlisle.  I have no record of 25151 working in West Yorkshire during that (or any other) time frame.
However the question refers to 25101 and whilst that was not the one involved in the Huddersfield accident it did at least work the Sheffield
            - Huddersfield portion for the 0855 York - Llandudno on the 21/6/80."

NOTE:  Further reports of passenger workings in the West Yorkshire area of either 25101 or 25151 would be of great interest.

Q.  Gary Lovett asks...
"Can anyone please help me with some gen about the Nottingham - Blackpool services of 1987.
1/ Can anyone tell me the mileage from Chesterfield to Stockport  via Dore Curve?
2/ Did the teatime service from Nottingham run round in Sheffield ,or did it go by the old road and Beighton Junction?"
A.
 	1) Richard Rooker answers... "I had a look in my Mile by Mile and if I have worked it out right the
mileage from Chesterfield - Stockport via Dore Curve is 45.79 in miles and chains.

Chesterfield - Dore South Jn = 7.53
Dore South Jn - Dore West Jn = 0.23
Dore West Jn - Stockport = 38.03"

2) Si Carter writes..."
The afternoon service used to go old road and Beighton."

Q.   " Can anyone with a copy of the passenger (or WTT) for the period 14 May 79 - 11 May 80 tell us the booked time off Plymouth for the 15XX 1M60 service to
               Manchester Piccadilly?
"
A.   Eddie Holden says"15:15."

Q.   Tony Batchelor, I am currently a driver with Chiltern Railways, based at Stourbridge.  During the 1980's when a driver at Birmingham New Street I worked the Orient
Express on its first trip north.  The locomotive was 50007, Sir Edward Elgar.  The train was booked to run over the Settle Carlisle line.  I worked the train from New Street
to Crewe where class 50007 was replaced with a 45/46 locomotive.

I cannot remember the date and I wondered if anyone has or can obtain details or any photographic records of this event.  It would be nice to have some memory of
            that special day."

A. Richard Rooker says..."I can't obtain photo's but have found the following details -
50007 worked Hertfordshire Railtours "The Cumbrian Orient Express" on 08th December 1984
0727 London Victoria - Carlisle to Crewe been replaced there by 45116 which went via the S&C.

Q. Can you help Richard Rooker fill in the gaps in his moves books?

"06th August 1985

Does anyone know what 47567 was working on Tues 06th Aug 1985? I think it was the European i was waiting for at Chesterfield when this rolled in at about the right time and as i was wanting Sheffield i got on only to finish up going non-stop to York via Beighton. It turned out the train i was only only stopped at Chesterfield because the signal was red, but i never did find out what the train was. "

A. Kevin Law says... "47567 worked 1Z25 an Ealing Broadway-York excursion (adex). It went "old road" via Barrow Hill."

Q. Dave Prichard asks..."I need to know which 45/46 'Peak' worked the 0700 Plymouth-Newcastle on WEDNESDAY 14th MARCH 1984.
I was on this train Bristol Parkway - Derby !"
A. Kevin Law says... "The train was actually 1E30 06.53 Plymouth-York (not Newcastle) and the loco was 45147, it arrived at Chesterfield at 12.04."
Q. Wag asked... "On 16th September 1978, I did a railtour which employed 76013 and 76021 over the Woodhead route, although I know the locos involved can anyone
tell me the exact route the railtour took.  I remember doing the tour, but can't remember the exact route it took.?"

A. As with any questions with regards Railtours, or indeed any other charter, football special, mystery excurtion or ADEX, the best place on the net to find an answer is the
excillent Six Bells Junction Site.  That site specilses in recording the details of these type of services and covers them in far greater detail than we have the space or time
for here.  And that's just where 'Clayhead' found these details:

	84002 Birmingham New St. - Duddeston - Bescot - Wolverhampton - Crewe - Stockport
25204 Stockport - Manchester Piccadilly
76013 + 76021 Manchester Piccadilly - Rotherwood
76013 + 76021 Rotherwood - Manchester Piccadilly
25131 Manchester Piccadilly - Stockport
84002 Stockport - Crewe - (main line) - Birmingham New St

Q.  "Does anyone have the reporting codes of the generally Class 20 hauled 08:11 Derby-Llandudno & 16:44 Llandudno-Derby return serviices from the Summer of 1991?
A listing of all known locos to have worked this service can be found here ."

A. Mike Tongue replies..."I often nipped up to Stoke on Trent after work to cover the 1644  Llandudno to Derby train and was rewarded with several required 20's
over  the period.  However, I deliberately booked a day off work on Friday 13th September 1991 ('coz I'm not superstitious), specifically to do the out-and-back
          trip with the 20's.

          The weekday trains were :
          0811 Derby - Llandudno - 2D64
          1644 Llandudno - Derby - 2D90"

Q. Mark Honey recalls a day, again during 85, when 45003 worked the 1030 York - Plymouth Relief to Derby, with 47497 working forward.
Can anyone suggest a actual date?
Question posted: 24/10/04
A. "55022" says..."45003 worked the 1030 York - Plymouth additional on 31/7/85, I had haulage on it from York - Sheffield."
Q. Alex Fisher inquires if the 6M63 1435 Saltend - Toton West (Circa 1983/4 - see Freight pages) acid tanks took the Erewash route
via Alfreton or travelled via Derby?
Question posted: 20/06/04
A. Mike Hollick says..."6M63 was booked Clay Cross Sth Junc 1811, Pye Bridge Jn 1824, Trowell Jn 1839, Toton Jn 1852-1856 so via Erewash "

Q. Mr Ritchie asks..."Double-headed-rat brick trains were a daily feature on the up Midland mainline through eg Wellingborough through the mid 70s, but where
did they originate/were destined, and what were the wagons used?"

A. Phil Bartlett says..."From memory I believe they were Forders-Cricklewood trains using Freightliner FFA inners and FGA outers.."
Mike Hollick says..."These would be the "Fletliners" from Forders Sdgs - Freightliner services to Garston & Kings Cross. In the May 84 WTT the following operarted:
4F53 1240 MWFO Forders-Garston - via Bedford, Wigston, Nuneaton, Crewe, Weaver Jn
        4A54 0059 WFO Garston-Forders - via WCML & Bletchley
        4B54 0059 SO Garston-Rugby Yd - via Weaver & WCML
        4A54 0420 MO Rugby Yd-Forders - via WCML & Bletchley
        4E78 1930 SX Forders-Kings Cross - via Bedford, MML
        4M80 1025 SX Kings Cross-Forders - via MML, Bedford"

Q. Andrew Crampton asks..."Which Peak worked the 07.40 Cardiff - Newcastle (09.50 ex Birmingham New Street), which I travelled on from Birmingham New Street
to York, on the late May Whit Bank Holiday  Monday 1980, (which I believe was Monday 26th May 1980 ?  Although I remember it was definately a class 45 Peak,
I sadly didn't note at the time which one it was. The stock was formed of load 11 air cons, so I presume it would have been 451xx."

A. Alan Lea replies..."it was 45147"

          Andrew says..."
You have made my day, and ended a 25 year wait for this gen !

I had got 45147 down as one of only two class 45/1's which I thought I had required for haulage, having bashed the class up until their withdrawal in the late 1980's.
It would appear that the only class 45/1 I missed was 45109 which was only the second sub class member to be withdrawn, sucumbing in 1985, the first being of course
45147 after the Eccles crash of 1984.

I remenber the journey to this day.  When it had pulled in we ended up sitting in the first coach, despite my parents insisting that they were not willing to sit right
behind "a filthy, smelly diesel", (you've guessed it, they were and still are normals of course).  I remember peering through the small windows of the gangway connection
doors, (I was only 11 at the time, so was too nervous to bellow out of the droplight window), watching it's nose bobbing up and down, and listening to it thrashing away.
We visited the NRM that day, where I purchased an Ian Allen ABC.  When we arrived back at York station, our return train which was the return Newcastle - Cardiff diagram
for the same loco, was already in, so we got straight on it, intending to finally get it's number when we arrived at New Street.  On arrival at New Street we only had a plus 2,
to catch the DMU back home (which was then Stourbridge), the next one being an hour later.  This time parent power did intervene, so once again I was unable to make
a note of the number, and it has remained a mystery for the past 25 years until now.

Many thanks also to Alan for coming up with the gen.

Now where is that Tardis when you need it..."

Q.   Mark Harrison asks..."On the evening of Wednesday 22nd September 1982 does anybody know which loco worked the
Fort William to Euston Sleeper from Fort William to Glasgow Queen St?

A.  The sleeper from Fort William on 22 September 1982 was 37191 worked to Glasgow... gen from Darren Leeson (Wigan) Hinckley
Q. Can anyone supply approximate rolling stock formations for any of services featured as seperate listings on this site, most notably,
the Summer Saturday workings?  Also Alex has requested, stock formations for Midland Mainline turns, early eighties, in
connection with a model railway project based upon Alfreton (Erewash valey line).   See also Erewash page.

A.   D.  Taylor writes... " in the early 80's the booked services were.Loco Fo, Fo, Bfk, Rb, So,  So, So, So.  However the Master Cutler had an Rbr in place
of the Rb.  I cannot  help with summer Saturday workings as they were Eastern Region stock.  ADEX's starting from Alfreton were formed by whatever
Etches Park Derby had available usually Mk.1's.  I did have have the pleasure of working a couple of specials from Alfreton for Co-op travel/Saga
holidays which were formed entirely of 1st.class Mk 1 stock."

Question Answered:  15/05/05

Q. Mark Nicoll says..."Hopefully someone can help with this query?

The date is 14 April 1982 and I have 46050 on a train from York to Sheffield via the Midland route.  At Sheffield, I take 46056 back
to York.  From memory I think at least one of the trains was an Easter relief but is there any gen as to the details of both trains?
I have two headcodes in my rough notes - 1V90 and 1E91 which may or may not be related to these 2 trains

.Question posted: 13/06/04 Reposted: 28/11/04
A.  Nick B has infomed us that 46050 worked a 0953 Newcastle - Swansea Relief on the above date and...

Kevin Law adds... 46056 worked 1E75 08.35 Taunton-Newcastle relief

  Question Answered:  15/05/05

Q. Alan Baylis (and your Webmaster) would be very interested to learn if anyone out there can confirm the booked times and

            14:15 Yarmouth - Walsall
            08:10 Derby - Yarmouth
            14:30 Yarmouth - Derby

Q. Jonathan Barlow says..."can't remember any dates or times but I hope someone can remember this epic journey:
Heading home from Bristol to Sheffield we took a 47 to Gloucester.  This failed and was replaced by two 25's.
These headed of to Birmingham banked up the Lickey by two 37's.  When we reached Birmingham the 25's were
replaced by a 40 as one had failed.  This took us back to Sheffield.  Not much to go on except I think the 40 was 069?"
Question posted: 10/05/03
A.  Richard Boyd suggests a possible date as 5th August 1981.  He says... "This sounded rather familiar I checked my bash book and I
believe the date was 5 August 1981, with the train concerned being the 14.38 Paignton-Leeds. This arrived in Gloucester behind
47287 (I have no note to say whether it failed or not but would have been none too happy at it not going forward!) and left with
25138 and 25299 providing the power.  As Jonathan says, there was a problem with 25299 so the train was assisted up the Lickey
by the bankers, 37096 and 37303. I don't have a note of what went forward from Birmingham but 47055 was the 16.38 Leeds-Bristol
          and 47530 the 17.27 Manchester-Didcot"
