Q.   Richard Boyd inquires...
             "
On Saturday 11 May 1974 BR held an Open Day at Carlisle Kingmoor to celebrate the inauguration of the full electric service between Weaver Junction
and Glasgow, the first day of which would have been the preceding Sunday, 6 May. I travelled up to this on what was almost certainly the 07.53
Manchester-Glasgow and have in my (school) notebook that the loco was 50034 throughout. The problem is that this isn't a contemporaneous record
of my haulages for the day and would have been written down sometime later. 50034 remained on the Midland for some time after the majority of the
fleet went to the Western in 1974 so most probably was on the train as far as Preston. What interests me though is whether the loco was removed
at Preston for an electric (as one would expect) and if so, which one. Or did it indeed "go through"?"

Q.   Andre of the Stratford 47 Group asks...

6th May 1989 47596 worked a NENTA charter.   The train was a North Walsham with another loco (Class 31?) to Norwich
            and 47596 then worked from
Norwich to Weymouth but don't know times/codes or which route
47596 worked on the return to Norwich.
Still require times and train reporting number for outward and return.

             Also
in 1982

            47255 (47596) worked a Chelmsford - Keighley and return Charter on 12th June 1982.

            1. Did this service startat Chelmsford or was this the location that the person who recorded the gen got on?
            2. Times and codes for both out and return journeys.

Q.   Pip Dunn says...
           "
I have just stumbled across of a pic on a Fotopic site captioned as :
             20138 & 20093 on the return ECS from the 0110 Perth - Aberdeen 29/6/85.

As I cannot find out what worked that train on that date, its begs the question: Did the 20s
20s at Aberdeen in 1985 were not all that common, and it may be that it was just a good way to return two stray
Choppers south.... Or had they had some rateable overnight passenger work? Anyone know? "

A.

Q.    Graham Harris asks...
                "
The Cornishman (1V71 07.40 Leeds - Penzance, 1E21 10.20 Penzance - Leeds) was stated in the working timetable to consist of Air-braked stock from
October 4th 1976 with the cascading of Mk2A and Mk2B stock from the West of England services as air-cons were introduced.

Vacuum braked stock was still in use on 6th October 1976, does anyone know when the change in stock actually occurred?"
               Roger Geach adds.."
They were still steam heat from October 1976 to at least October 1978.  Only the Paddington's went over to air cond stock from
4 October 1976 and then not all of them as the 1040 Paddington to Plymouth remained non eth for example as did the overnight services .   Westerns
still worked on odd occasions 1E21 and 1V71 up to Feb. 1977 when they were all withdrawn.   So it was after October 78 the change was made."

Q.  Mark Chadfield asks...
          "
Does anyone know or have any information or pictures of the last "European" Service to run between Harwich Parkestone Quay and
Glasgow ?? (Both Directions) I cant remember the date but think it was around 1990 ish I remember it had a headboard on in both directions
and was worked from Preston to Sheffield via Man Victoria and Stockport by 47474 in one direction.          I was the driver between Man Vic
and Sheffield and return but have lost my account of the journey."

The last time that the "European" ran via Manchester & Sheffield would have been Saturday 09/05/1987.

          "

Q.  Paul Morris asks...
           "
Wonder if any of your reader's could identify which electric loco worked the outward leg of a Cheshire Railtours or Ffestiniog Tours  railtour from Manchester
Piccadilly to Wolverhampton in September 1978 or 1979.

I arrived late at Piccadilly and could just see what could have been an 81,82 or 83 at the far end of a lengthy rake of Mark 1 stock. The electric took us to
Wolverhampton where a fleet of buses took everybody to the Severn Valley for Black '5' -  45110 and 'Britannia' running thro' Foley Park tunnel before the
            line opened up to Kidderminster.

Return from Wolves back to Piccadilly was definitely courtesy of 40 013."

1S45 0750 Manchester Vic - Glasgow Central (to & from Preston)
            1E33 1645 Carlisle - Leeds.
"IE33 was the 1635 Carlisle Hull worked by 47479" David Garnett.

I have lost the souvener brochure for the classic traction event at Bury in September 1999.  Has anyone got the timetable and loco roster information for
         the Friday, 10th September 1999?"
A.

Q.   Chris Morley asks...
        1) Can anyone confirm that 31005 worked the 09.52 Liverpool Street - Lowestoft on either of these dates in 1978:
Saturday 27th May or Saturday 03rd June.
        2) Which loco worked the 15.50 York - Kings Cross on Saturday 22/03/1980?
        3) This question relates to an ECML Summer Saturday in either 1979 or 1980. It was very hot, so either June, July or August. I had 40027
and 40025 between Darlington - York. 027 was probably taken Southbound in the morning and 025 probably Northbound later in the day.
At least one of the services was either to or from Yarmouth. Can anyone supply the date?
        4) Saturday 18th March 1979 - can anyone confirm which trains 26010 & 26017 hauled to/from Aberdeen & Dundee.
A.
1)

2)
Which loco worked the 15.50 York - Kings Cross on Saturday 22/03/1980?

A )
Richard Barrick says..."It was worked by 47 403 (which had earlier worked north with the 12 20 KX-York).
Most other northbound KX to York or Hull semi-fasts that day were Deltic, as per diagram, but the
12 20 and 15 50 ex York return "was Duff"." See also Where Were You 22/03/80 .

Back in March 1991 I did 17.18 Salisbury - Waterloo behind 33008.  I think it was about the 16th.  Cannot be certain.  Can anybody confirm this?
I had 50007 I think on the 15.15 Waterloo-Exeter to Salisbury for the 33 back."

Q.   Chris Morley asks...

        1) See below...

        2)  See below...

        3) During the summer months of either 1979 or 1980 (Late May to late August) a Birmingham - Leeds (or York) relief train was worked by 25288 alone
hauling 10 MK1 coaches. It called at Derby during the afternoon and then proceeded non-stop to Sheffield, passing Chesterfield at 85mph. Can
anyone confirm the date & time of this working?

        4)
Did 40034 work a passenger train between New Street & Wolverhampton (in either direction) on any of
             these dates?

Tuesday 14/08/79 (The day of the Bushbury Jcn derailment)
            Sunday 06/07/80
Sunday 17/08/80 (Diesel drags until 16.00 between New St, Wolverhampton & Stafford)

            1) Can anyone confirm which loco hauled the 13.00 1D17 Llandudno -
            Nottingham on Saturday 02/06/79?"

Nick B (45020) says... "about the 1300 Llan -Notts. Well 25126 did the outward, (730 Notts - Llan)
and it was noted back at Derby late that night so I assume it did the full diagram." This confirms
            what Chris Morley suspected.

            2) Can anyone confirm which pair of class 20s worked from Derby (09.22) to
Skegness on Bank Holiday Monday 26/05/80?

As it was a Monday, the 1E85 service started back at Burton-on-Trent at 0846 and was
in fact, 31116+31193 according reports received from Steve Marshall, who was on board Long Eaton - Nottingham

Does anyone know whether it stuck to the complete diagram 1S85 HPQ-Preston 1P62-Blackpool North 1G10-Preston 1F27-Liverpool Lime Street,
then the return diagram the next day to get it to HPQ to start again?"

Did 46017 do the return Birmingham - Bristol leg?"
A.

Q. 'Delamere Derek' asks for more 70's gen...
"Can anyone tell me the locos present at the Reading Diesel Depot open day in, I think, 1973 although it could have been 1972. There was a
Hymek and a 37 open for walk throughs and I have a hazy recollection of  a GW kettle in steam, possibly giving brake van rides.
My active interest in locos did not start until 1979 and I would love to know what hydraulics I saw as a small boy...If only I had been bashing

Q.  Natalie Jones as written an article on WCML Train formations 1986/87 looking initially at the main London services...
"In my article I have a section on additional workings and plan to mention the Sunday steam specials from Marylebone to Stratford upon Avon. I
think they were called Sunday Luncheon Express and used the first class set of refurb Mk1s. If anyone had any timings (and details of any
associated ECS workings) it would be a great help."

Q. Can you help Richard Rooker fill in the gaps in his moves books?

Sun 04th January 1987

Can anyone provide times / headcodes for the following trains that i was on? (If i remember correctly, several of these trains were relief's)
31450 Sheffield - Doncaster 1E25 0906 Hunts Cross - Hull        (time / headocde from www.table29.co.uk)
47458 Doncaster - York ???? ???? Kings Cross - Edinburgh
47522 York - Doncaster 1E96 1040 Edinburgh - Kings Cross Relief (
time / headocde from Bob Spooner)
47430 Doncaster - York ???? ???? Kings Cross - Edinburgh
47537 York - Leeds 1M70 1552 York - Holyhead  (code & time c/o David Garnett)
47588 Leeds - Doncaster 1A25 1645 Leeds - Kings Cross
(code & time c/o David Garnett)
47419 Doncaster - York ???? 1538 Kings Cross - Edinburgh Relief (time  from Bob Spooner)
47656 York - Doncaster ???? ???? Edinburgh - Kings Cross
31458 Doncaster - Sheffield ???? ???? Hull - Liverpool"

WEBMASTER'S NOTE:
1E25 was booked to reach Doncaster at 1225.
47537 would probably have been 1M70 1552 York - Holyhead, booked 1619 arr at Leeds and
there was a booked hauled 1A25 1645 Leeds - KX that winter, that was probably 47588.  All the Edinburgh turns presumably must have been relief's.

Q.  Dave Root asks... "It was a mystery excursion in the mid 1980s, I don't know where it originated from, but I boarded it at Loughborough, and it ended up at Lowestoft.
It started off behind 45123 and I'm pretty sure that 47577 took over later, although I can't remember where.

Unfortunately I don't have much of a clue as to the date, although I would guess at 1984, given that this was the first time I took loco numbers, and when I
subsequently acquired my first "Locoshed Book" to keep them in, it was the 1984 edition. (Hopefully I can be forgiven my l ax record keeping, having been 7 at the time!)
Is there any chance of finding out the date and time of this working? ...and did the same locos haul the return?

Q.  Andy C (47432) asks..."I am after finding out the locos that worked a mystery excursion in April 1981 from Blackpool to Cambridge. I remember having 45076
from Nuneaton to Cambridge and back to March for 45105 back to Nuneaton. What i cannot remember is the loco from Blackpool to Preston & Return and also
the electric from Preston to Nuneaton (it may have been an 81?)

Q. Richo asks..."On 22nd Sept 1979 was Crewe works open day I travelled on what I am sure was the 7.30 Notts-Llandudno could any one tell me what was the class 25?"

A.   Chris Morley as kindly checked out the following..."Table 80 for the 1979-80 timetable, Note C states: 26 May to 1 September. To Llandudno arr.
        11.37 (Table 83)
So there would have been no scheduled service on September 22nd 1979."
But were there any additional services provided that day
           formed of hauled stock?

Q.  Iain McLean asks..."Does anyone out there know what worked 1M93 10.14 Yarmouth - Birmingham on 29/5/93 and 26/6/93?"
