Q.   Rob Wilde asks..."1) Have you any information at all on either of the two former
railtour operators - Ridings Railtours and Anston Travel Service?

                                            2) I went on an all 1st Class excursion (should have been pullman but
asbestos found!) from Sheffield to Blaenau Ffestiniog some time in
very late 70s or early-mid 80s. I know the company specialised in
running these trains from various places nationwide to BF. This
particualr jopurney was very memorabe in some respects - a 45 all the
way to BF (despite being banned from the Conwy Valley line). It was
VERY wet and we needed a push from a 25 if I recall! Can you shed any light?

                                           3) Have you any idea what Green Express have got planned for next
year? Their website seems to have given up!"

Q.  "Does anyone know which locos worked 'a Barrow-in-Furness to Hastings MYSTEX sometime summer of 1977 - probably August?".

Q. Mr Ritchie also asks...

"The eastern end of the Cambridge-Kettering line was retained into the 1970s as a spur as far as Cranford/Twywell limestone/ironstone quarry off the
Midland Mainline at Kettering Junction. I distinctly remember my dad getting me to look from the car into the cutting from the A6 overbridge, and seeing
rats and mineral tipplers. Anyone know of any photos of any of these diagrams, and when did they finally cease?"

Q. Ric inquires...

I would be gratefull if could answer any of the following:

1 What service did 45039 work through Sheffield on 15th July 1978?
2 Anyone recall details of a Merrymaker Mystery tour from Newcastle [ possibly on a summer Sunday ] in 78 or 79 with 47115 which ended up at Morecambe?
3 Which loco's worked the 21-24 Bristol TM to Glasgow overnight forward from New St on the night of 29th November 1982 and 14th December 1985?
4 On 12th August 1980 where was 45019 replaced by 46045 on 18-08 Penzance-Leeds?  -  Plymouth -  Mike Kerry
5 The 21-50 York-Shrewsbury service sometimes changed loco's at Leeds, what went forward on the night of 06th October 1978 and 24th October 1978?

A.

Q. Jim Ramsay asks... "I wonder if anyone could possibly help with this query ?

31/3/90 -  47550 was working the 21.35 Aberdeen to Edinburgh (portion of Aberdeen to Euston) overnight sleepers/seats.
Upon arrival at Kirkcaldy it was apparent there was a problem  - there had been a suicide further down the line and the train would need to be diverted back round via
Dunfermline.  In order to set back to Thornton Jcn a pair of cl 20s from Thornton shed were coupled to the rear after 40 minutes or so and hauled the train back to
Thornton N Jcn where they un-coupled and off 47550 went ....

Can anyone shed any light on the identity of the 20s ? - by the time I realised what was happening at Kirkcaldy it was too late to ID the locos involved."

A.

Q.  Alan Rawlins says..."I was a crane driver at Stratford Freightliner in the 60s-70s I have many memories it was a hard job but was the best.It is sad to hear the
terminal has long gone.I can remember a lot of films being taken at the terminal is there anywhere iI can purchase these films."

Q. Dave Prichard asks..."I need to know which 45/46 'Peak' worked the 0700 Plymouth-Newcastle on WEDNESDAY 14th MARCH 1984.
I was on this train Bristol Parkway - Derby !"

Q.  PRAR asks...  "Which loco worked the 0822(?) Paddington - Fishguard Motorail service on 09/06/1979?
I think it was a 50 throughout.  Can anybody confirm the routing -  I think it was Bath and Swansea District but we could have taken the Landore spur?

ALSO:  What locos worked the Fishguard - Paddington Motorail service on 23/6/1979?
As I recall the inbound service arrived at Fishguard with 2 47s on the front (one having failed enroute). Both locos were run round and we headed  back to London
with one live and one dead.  At Cardiff Central there was a   loco change (on the Up Main) and another 47 took us back to London.  Again what was the routing?

A.

Q. Steve Ford says...  "I am due to retire soon and for a 2 year period I worked Anglia class 86 locos from King's Cross to
Edinburgh on Serco workings   There were many photos taken of this event. (It used to run  every month from August 2000 to
August 2002 with Anglia locos).  Has anyone a copy of the train at Newcastle or York?  This will go into my retiremnt album."

            22-08-1980,40027, CHESTER, WARRINGTON,0000,18,

            21-06-1981,40056, EDINBURGH, NEWCASTLE,0000,124.5

"40180 was a WCML Sunday drag and 40056 was something like the 1115 Edinburgh - Newcastle.  After that move I had 55013
to York, which came in directly behind 40056 from Edinburgh... at least I think so, but looking in 1H81 there is nothing to suggest
what these trains might be, so they could have been reliefs?"

Q. Dominic Fletcher recalls..."On August 20th 1987 you have 47307 working 1E93 1858 Liverpool LS - Newcastle from Ravensthorpe.
That brought back memorys for me I was on the train when the origianal 47 failed.  This was quite an amusing episode as they sen
an NB 47 from Holbeck to rescue the train only for it to back on to the train and for the air brakes not to work so off went the 47
with the failed 47 in tow, leaving the stock sat at Ravensthorpe with no engine then they sent out another loco.

Which were the other two 47s involved above?

            Also::
July 10th 1988, 47101 shown on 1M80 Newcastle - Liverpool LS again  shown  as working throughout?

Didn't this work from Leeds after the failure (of 47401, fire again)?

Q.    Pete Slagel says..."I'm trying to find out with regard to the Class 20's,which were used forward from Gloucester to
Birmingham New Street in the late Seventies & early Eighties, the train was the 1M74 14.00 M~F Penzance -
Manchester Picc, it was usually hauled by a Class 45/0,45/1,46 or class 47 from Penzance - Gloucester, then forward
with a freight turn which had come down to Gloucester Yard from Toton in the morning.the train was also usually
banked up the Lickey Incline with a variety of Class 37's.Once at Birmingham New Street the engines came off with the
Buffet Car at the front and an Electric would go forward to Manchester afterwards, I would be very pleased if anyone
can shed (sorry) some light on what the engine numbers were, and if so can point in the right direction to find out
            Dates, Engines/Numbers?"

Although we may be in error, I can only recall the 1M60 15?? Plymouth - Manchester P which did produce many 'big' freight
engines as described.  A list of currently known gen on 1M60 can be found here .
