The Class 52 diesel hydraulic locos, the Western's, built up quite a following, during their final few years.  The last examples lasted into 1977, and,
remarkably they were working passenger workings right up to the very end.  Here, David Davis as supplied a list of their final two months in service.

bit years that saw these machines working, initially to Crewe and then later, beyond into North Wales and Manchester.

Pope-ex specials
Over the late Spring Bank Holiday 1982, in addition to the usual extra traffic normally expected, unprecedented numbers of people were expected to travel to a number
of major events in connection with the first ever visit to the UK of the Pope (John Paul II).
  The first of several planned pages featuring these trains :
  Manchester - Blackpool North  , now joined by a page featuring the York area workings both these events on Monday 31st May 82
while the Cardiff area workings are detailed on a Where Were You ? page for
Wednesday 2nd June 1982 .


Dragging in East Anglia, while not unknown, was maybe not as common place or as well reported as Drag's in other areas.
