1980's Skegness turns.

Below is a listing of all regular locomotive hauled turns that were booked to run to the popular Lincolnshire resort during the 1980's,
along with details of known, booked motive power, and a few short explanatory notes about those turns where felt appropriate.

There were no all year round hauled services to Skegness during the 1980's.
However, each Summer, a number of  dated trains did run and these turns were generally hauled and could produce some interesting line-ups of motive power .
Most of these turns ran on Saturdays, but for most of the decade, Sunday and Weekday hauled turns also ran.
You probably won't be too surprised to learn that reference to SO in the notes below indicates a Saturdays only train or diagram, while SUN is a Sunday turn,
MThO indicates Ran on Mondays and Thursdays only, TWO Tuesdays & Wednesdays only, SX ran Monday-Friday otherwise ran Monday-Saturdays.
FSX service Ran Mondays - Thursday only & Q indicates a service that was not in the public timetable and thus, such turns ran only if there was demand.

1985 Notes:
For awhile it seamed like this would be the last year that the once familiar sight of Class 20's working to Skegness on passenger turns would be a regular occurrence.
But little did we know that these popular engines would be back, hauling passengers to Skegness on a regular basis. albeit only SO, after a two year absence!

1986 Notes:
The only regular hauled turn within the East Midlands to Skegness was 1E07 & 1E02 SO turns which ran via Nottingham.  All other turns from Derby, Leicester
and Nottingham now booked to be formed by the then new Sprinter DMU's.  The resulting over crowding saw an end to the bargain fares of previous years and
still there was a requirement for numerous Coaches and Taxis to carried the overflow.  However, as the summer went on, a number of additional hauled services
were provided on an irregular basis and these produced a handful of Class 20's.  Details, where known of these additional services can be found on the Diary Pages .

1988 Notes:
The brief return for one season, of both a weekday hauled Skegness turn and a regular turn from the East Midlands is the shape of 1E89 & 1M22 rtn
will be noted..  1E89 & 1M22 are now booked a  47 from the IM based FPLI sector which consisted of just two locos, 47296 & 47373.  It was to be the
latter engine that did most of the work, though both engines did appear, plus other stuff too!.

No weekday hauled turns again.  1E89 was running. as it had the previous year, but this time starting back at Birmingham New Street at 07:19 and now a booked
'Heritage' DMU turn   However,  as the summer wore on, Locos and Stock were turned out on this turn on some dates.  See Diary Pages for all known details.
