According to the handbill promoting these additional services, they were non-stop between Alsager and Blackpool both ways.  They did however, stop at Crewe most of the time.

Note 1.    20173+20065 Set off from Derby with the ECS (8xVB mkIs) but 20173 failed en-route.  20117+20006 sent
from Stoke to assist but unable due to isolated train VB equipment.  20065 continues to Stoke alone.  Upon arrival at Stoke 20132+20133 provided.  By this time however, a steel train hauled by 37069 has derailed blocking the line between Stoke and Etruria resulting in diversion via Stafford.  Upon arrival at Crewe the 20s were failed with a defective
horn.  Crewe provides 37714 but refused by driver.  Crewe provides 47439 which works forward and return!
